New England Patriots officials are expected to meet with Tom Brady’s agent, Don Yee, momentarily, according to multiple reports. Brady is expected to become a free agent on March 18 for the first time in his 20-year career, but that could change if he and the Patriots can agree on a contract in the next month.
The Boston Herald characterized the meetings this week as a “starting point” for legitimate conversations between the two sides.
There are questions that need to be addressed on both sides. Will the Patriots be willing to pay Brady the $30 million the 42-year-old would likely fetch in free agency? Will Brady be satisfied with the Patriots’ plans to put more talent around him after last season’s disappointing wild-card exit against the Titans?
The Raiders, Titans and Chargers have been mentioned as potential landing spots if Brady and the Patriots cannot find a middle ground. A lot of the drama around free agency would be eliminated if they did, though.
