Crazy! Leading The Brooklyn Cyclones To A Championship Wasn’t Enough To Save Edgardo Alfonzo

The former Mets infielder, who is beloved by Mets fans, has been told his contract won’t be renewed by the NY Mets, according to the NY Post, after managing their Class A Brooklyn Cyclones to the New York-Penn League championship.

Alfonzo was informed by Mets officials that the new regime, headed by general manager Brodie Van Wagenen – who was hired last October – wants to hire its own people.

Alfonzo spent the last three seasons managing Brooklyn after a standout career with the Mets – he ranks fifth in club history in hits (1,136).

Edgardo Alfonzo led the Cyclones to the title. Letting him go is absurd! Pure and simple.

Alfonzo may accept an ambassador role within the organization that was offered as part of his Brooklyn ouster. I guess the Mets are trying to save face, but the situation reeks of madness by the Mets.
