On a day the Giants officially added their new right tackle with the signing of veteran Mike Remmers they also did some roster shuffling.
Added to the mix on defense, the Giants signed Freedom Akinmoladun, a defensive end from Nebraska who attended the team’s rookie mini-camp as a tryout player. Akinmoladun started 37 games at Nebraska and the 6-foot-3, 283-pounder finished his college career with 12 sacks and 106 tackles.
The Giants also waived kicker Joey Slye of Virginia Tech and waived/injured rookie defensive back Jacob Thienemen, who went undrafted out of Purdue before signing with the Giants. He hurt his knee in the rookie camp.
Remmers is expected to move into the starting lineup at right tackle, supplanting Chad Wheeler, the starter at right tackle for the final 14 games last season.
