For the first time, Major League Soccer will have its own stadium in New York City.
New York City FC’s Willets Point stadium project appears set to officially move forward after it was approved by the New York City Council in a 47-1 vote.
The proposed $780M stadium across the street from the Mets’ Citi-Field has been progressing through the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Process (ULURP) since October 2023.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has publicly supported the project since he helped unveil it at the Queens Museum more than a year ago.
Construction on the stadium — site mitigation and preparation has been underway since last summer — could break ground this year. The design team is wrapping up the stadium design and is a few weeks away from beginning to draw construction documents.
